He taught and coached in the public schools of Virginia and North Carolina for five years. He continued his education at UNC Charlotte acquiring the prerequisites for dental and medical school before deciding on dental school. He was elected student body president his senior year in dental school at UNC Chapel Hill. He has been practicing pediatric dentistry in Statesville since his graduation. He maintains staff privileges at both Iredell Memorial and Davis Regional Hospitals.
Dr. Stephanie Werner
Dr. Stephanie Werner is a native of Statesville. After receiving a Bachelor of Science from the University of North Carolina, she moved to Northern California and participated in an AmeriCorps program where she met her husband, Jake. After a few years in the marine science field, she returned to Chapel Hill for dental school. She graduated with distinction from the University of North Carolina’s School of Dentistry and then went on to complete a residency in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Werner is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and received the Richard C. Pugh award for her performance on the board exam. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, the North Carolina Academy of Pediatric Dentist, and the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry.
With fond memories of her own dental visits as a former patient of Dr. Rankin’s, Dr. Werner is honored to have the opportunity to work alongside him serving the greater Statesville community.
Dr. Stephanie joined our office December 2016.
Althea is our practice administrator. Althea has been with Dr. Rankin from day one after graduating from Wayne Community College with a degree in dental assisting. For 38 years she has maintained her annual certification thru DANB. From chair side assistant to practice manager Althea has demonstrated her skills in both the dental as well as business side of our practice. She inspires each of us every day with her commitment to this practice, her co-workers and Dr. Rankin. Her obvious love of children is demonstrated each day by her actions, and her enthusiasm. Her gentle touch and encouraging words have helped both her patients and their parents.
Cindy is our insurance coordinator and out-patient surgery scheduler. Cindy has been with Dr. Rankin for 28 years. She is knowledgeable with insurance changes and willing to help our families navigate the difficult red tape involved in filing their insurance. At our office your insurance is filed and you are assisted in any communications necessary. Her attention to detail, her thoroughness and her excellent work ethic combined with her commitment to do the best job possible in assisting our families with their insurance and out-patient surgery needs has made her invaluable to this practice.
Kathy is one of our appointment coordinators. She is the pleasant voice on the end of the phone when you call. Kathy’s special skill is that she remembers EVERYHTING about your child and you for that matter. She remembers their accomplishments in sports, in school; she remembers your family, because our families are important to her. I often overhear her ask, how is your family doing, I remember on the last check-up, they were in the hospital. That concern for our patients and their families sets Kathy apart from most business office staff. Kathy loves to post your child’s art, pictures and accomplishments on our face book page. Kathy’s commitment to our office is 22 years strong.
Amy is our business office assistant. There is not a title sufficient for all Amy does. She is the support beam for the business office. The front desk would be completely lost without Amy’s positive, eager energetic attitude. There is nothing Amy will not attempt and then do well. “Can’t do” is not in Amy’s vocabulary. She keeps the daily schedule full and confirmed. Her talent is on display each month on our welcome new patient board. She is creative, and shares that talent with us. She is also that friendly smile that welcomes you and your child when you check in. She gives to all the children a kind, generous smile and a reassuring attitude. She truly enjoys working in a pediatric office and it shows every day of the 13 years that Amy has been with our office
If you come on Tuesdays you will meet Lesley, another one of our dental hygienists. Lesley has been with Dr. Rankin for 11 years. After the birth of her second child Lesley made the decision to work part time. We are so fortunate to have her. Her positive cheerfulness is contagious and you just feel energized being the same room. She graduated from dental hygiene school and entered dentistry as a pediatric dental hygienist and has been having a positive effect on each patient she cares for since. There are patients who request to come on Tuesdays because they love Lesley. Can’t say we blame them.
Nine years ago Dustin graduated from Chapel Hill dental hygiene program and then joined our staff. He should get extra credit for working along side 8 women, and we tease him about that all the time. Dustin’s commitment to the field of dental hygiene is only second to his commitment to help each child he treats to having a wonderful experience. His wide knowledge of comic book characters is a daily conversation and has helped many children ease into their appointment. He has one of the highest work ethics I have seen in my 38 years with Dr. Rankin. They don’t make them like Dustin anymore and we are lucky to have him.
Our newest addition is Katie Agate. Katie moved from South Carolina and lives with her husband in Troutman. Katie is a registered dental hygienist and came from an adult practice. She had treated children before in the adult practice she worked in prior to moving; however she had never worked in pediatrics. At first I think this was completely foreign to Katie and after a few weeks she stated how much more “fun” it is to spend your day with kids. A tender touch, a great imagination and a lot of patience make for a great hygienist, and Katie has those qualities, and now we have Katie.
Marsha, one of our certified dental assistants, has been with Dr. Rankin for 17 years. One of the things many people don’t know about Marsha is that her mother a certified dental assistant, worked for Dr. Rankin when he first opened the practice and Marsha was once a patient herself. Her exposure to great health oral health came early as well as her interest in dentistry. Her gentle touch and soft voice have reassured many an anxious child. Marsha wants each child to have the great dental experience she had as a child, and to know going to the dentist is something to look forward too!
